Film Summary
A very smart and entertaining mockumentary from the masters of the genre, A MIGHTY WIND is just what the doctor ordered: a genuinely funny movie. Christopher Guest, Michael McKean and Harry Shearer, the coterie behind This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman and Best in Show, offer what is essentially Spinal Tap as a folk trio: The Folksmen. It's a gas, in particular the send up of the PBS oldies show (spot-on), the terrific songs, the hysterical album covers and the usual suspects: Parker Posey, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, among others. It seems folk music is a subject that's actually closer to these filmmakers' hearts than rock and roll. So good you may think that at an hour and half A MIGHTY WIND is too short, something one rarely thinks about movies nowadays. The tagline is a good clue as to what the audience is in for: "Back together for the first time, again."
