This film follows the lives of a trun-of-the-century famol;y as they face the trials of everyday life. Mr. Smith isd a prosperous business man in St. Louis. His company offers him a promotion, but there is one catch- he must move his family ot New York.

When Father breaks the news that they are leaving St. Louis for New York, he encounters unexpected opposition from every membe rof the family. They cannot bear the thought of leaving their friends and familiar places, and they all have been looking forward to the opening of the 1904 World's Fair. father is determined to get his way, but a musical adventure at the Christmas Ball helps him see things differently, giving the family the advantage in the delightfully entetaining Meet Me In St. Louis.
