Quite simply the greatest movie musical of all time! Screenwriters Betty Comden and Adolph Green pieced together a story of Hollywood during the transition to talkies, together with songs from the catalogue of producer Arthur Freed and his songwriting partner Nacio Herb Brown. Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor top the terrific cast. Every moment is a sheer delight.
Two inseperable pals and partners in a vaudeville song-and-dance act come to Hollywood in the '20s. Don Lockwood and Cosmo Brown land jobs as musicians at Imperial studioes. don subs for an injured stuyntman adn swiftly rises to silent movie stardom. Many of his roles ar eopposite the beautiful but dumb Lina Lamont. Don has no interest in her romantically, but because of their screen relationship, they receive a lot of publicity. he meets and falls in love with Kathy Selden, a singer and dancer who is then fired by a jealous Lina. Thea dvent of "talkies" brings Kathy back to the screen. When Cosmo hears her voice, he dubs it in place of Lina's. her singing makes "the Dancing cavalier" a smahs hit. In an effort to save her career at Kathy's expense, Lina tries to force Simpson, the studio head, to hire Kathy as a voice double. dopn and Cosmo join forces in exposing her as a phony,. and Kathy receives her just acclaim.
