A memorable docudrama about American colonel and World War Two hero Mickey Marcus. He was asked by David Ben-Gurion to come to Israel to establish a formidable army. Marcus is dramatically played by Kirk Douglas in one of the big screens most poignant films on the creation of the State of Israel. Directed by Melville Shavelson, Cast a Giant Shadow portrays the courageous soldiers and civilians that fought against the Arab onslaught. Marcus, who graduated from West Point, became the personal advisor to Ben-Gurion under the nom de guerre (war name) of Mickey Stone. He was Israel's first officer to receive the new rank of alluf (brigadier general). The film also stars John Wayne, Frank Sinatra, Yul Brynner, Senta Berger, Angie Dickinson, James Donald, Luther Adler and Topol.
