Laemmle Theatres is exceedingly pleased to present GIRL
CRAZY, this summer's comic relief from the spider webs and intergalactic
explosions that have infested our fair city. GIRL CRAZY is a weekend
morning series of twelve movies, featuring the comic talents of Hollywood's
fearless femmes. Who better to start things off than the Queen of the
Double Entendre, Mae West in I'M NO ANGEL? The blueprint for screwball
comedies was laid down in the 1930Ős. We include the rare gems TWENTIETH
CENTURY and THEODORA GOES WILD, featuring the comic brilliance of Carole
Lombard and Irene Dunne. The renowned George Cukor inspired classic
performances from so many talented women. Included are three of his
films: DINNER AT EIGHT, spotlighting Billie Burke, Marie Dressler and
Jean Harlow; THE WOMEN, starring Joan Crawford, Rosalind Russell and
Norma Shearer ("Claws, Mother: Jungle Red!"); and THE PHILADELPHIA STORY,
with the versatile Katharine Hepburn. For musical comedy, we include
the genre's greatest star, Judy Garland, in GIRL CRAZY. The all-around
comic genius of Lucille Ball shines in THE LONG, LONG TRAILER, and Rosalind
Russell gives a no-holds-barred performance in AUNTIE MAME. Tony Curtis,
Jack Lemmon, and Marilyn Monroe are all very funny ladies in Billy Wilder's
esteemed SOME LIKE IT HOT. Doris Day takes us into the bedroom for some
comic PILLOW TALK and, finally, Barbra Streisand and Madeline Kahn bring
down the house in WHAT'S UP, DOC See these wonderful comedy classics
on the silver screen, because here at Laemmle Theatres, we do it all
for you! |
