This is a story of love and culture set in Ferrara, Italy, during World War II. The Finzi-Continis are a wealthy Jewish-Italian family who cannot believe that the war will ever invade their hallowed garden walls. They come to realize that Fascism is not going to go away and that they must join the fight against it. The melancholy glamour of this film records the halfhearted anti-Jewish measures of the Mussolini periodwhich were, however, sufficient to wipe out the Finzi-Continis and all they represented. (Oscar - Best Foreign Film 1971 )
Producer Arthur Cohen will be on hand to present the film. (Italy / 1971 / color / 35mm / 95 minutes / Italian w/ English subtitles) Music Hall - 11/11 @ 5:00 & 8:30pm |
