A Jew, he escaped deportation by hiding away in the forest for six months, thus surviving the Holocaust. Through his life, director Judit (Memoirs of a River) Elek shows us the whole of the 20th century, teaching us that there are other possible answers to the challenges of history and fate than resignation and victimization.
