TEATRO ANTICO TAORMINA
Built in Southern Italy in early seventh century BC, Teatro Antico di Taormina is the second largest ancient Greek theatre in Italy. Frequently used for operatic and theatrical performances, this picturesque theater sitting on the coast of Sicily is home to the annual Festival Euro Mediterraneo.
PRESENTATION
A love-struck soldier and celebrity toreador spar for the love of the alluring gypsy Carmen in this beloved classic. Bizet’s masterpiece – an opera whose striking defiance of bourgeoisie morality resulted in scandal at its Paris premiere in 1874 – comes to the magnificent Ancient Greek Theatre of Taormina this July 15. Framed by the enduring pillars of an ancient outdoor theatre, Bizet’s opera endures, enticing audiences with its classic tale of tragic seduction.
