Eating Happiness

“Eating Happiness” is the first call-to-action documentary to expose to the world the true nature of dog meat consumption in Asia. Producer and Director Genlin takes you through the back streets and rural villages of Vietnam, South Korea, and China to disclose the brutal violence of the dog meat trade, using never-before-seen footage of activists saving thousands of dogs by stopping trucks of trafficked dogs packed in cages; dog farms with horrific living conditions; a research center using dogs to develop commercial cosmetic products; an activist single-handedly raising over 3200 dogs that she saved from the Yulin Dog Meat Festival; and much more. For historical background, the movie explores the habits and relationships between humans and dogs in five different countries, providing a wide-ranged, deep study. The film’s powerful message will shake up the audience’s hearts and encourage them to reflect on humanity and the social issues we encounter.

The film highlights the fact that 30 million dogs are killed annually, 70% of them stolen pets. Dogs are tortured prior to processing, as it is believed that this enhances their flavor. It is a fallacy that dog meat is consumed because it is a cheap protein source when in fact it is more expensive than chicken, beef or pork and is considered a delicacy that enhances one’s strength. The way dogs are slaughtered compared to any other animal is the most inhumane and cruel - it is unimaginable.
